BATON ROUGE, La. - LouisEagle -- Opening the 5th Annual Baton Rouge Soul Food on May 12 is a Greens, Beans and Chicken Wings Party at Henry Turner Jr.'s Listening Room. Tickets are $30.00, including buffet. Performers include Henry Turner Jr. & Flavor, the Listening Room All-Stars' Larry 'LZ' Dillon, Kelton 'Nspire Harper, Owen Scott and comedian Eddie "Cool" Deemer with special guests.
The festival on Saturday, May 14 and Sunday, May 15 from 11:00am to 8:00pm at River Front Plaza at 300 River Road South is family friendly, free and features a Vendors Village.
Talent lineup features gospel, Christian, soul, blues and R&B. 11:30am Saturday is gospel rapper Mike Da'Kidd, followed by gospel artist Tia Danielle, Pastor Leon Hitchens, singer/songwriter Larry "LZ" Dillon and contemporary Christian singer Belwin J. Bruin. 2:00pm is Lisa Harris with her Tina Turner tribute, followed by HipHop/rapper Priceless Lion a Special Olympian Hall of Famer. Robert "The Juice" Lenoir sings oldies followed by songstress Katrina and comedian Eddie "Cool" Deemer. Henry Turner Jr. & Flavor bring their soul, blues/funk/reggae to the stage at 5:00pm, followed by singer April Nicole, crooner Xavie Shorts and closing is the R&B/funk/jazz/blues/zydeco West Wind Band.

The PEW Choir at 2:00pm is followed by blues guitarist Owen Scott and the House of God Ministries Gospel Singers. Comedian Eddie "Cool" Deemer is on at 4:30pm Kasey Balls' Soul Loops follows with Henry Turner Jr. & Flavor and blues greats SmokeHouse Porter and Miss Mamie. Closing the festival is Grammy nominated blues artist Kenny Neal.

The Pioneer Award, for outstanding contributions to the soul food industry, will be will presented on Saturday at 6:00pm to Dee Dickerson of D's 'Southern Soul Café in Plaquemine.
The Soul Food Cooking Contest winners for Entrees and Side Dishes are announced at 2:40pm on Saturday and winners in the Appetizers, Desserts and Drinks are announced Sunday at 4:00pm. The contest is open to entrants until Monday, May 9. First, second and third place prizes are awarded in each category.
