The City of New Orleans honored one of its favorite sons with a key to the City for his more than sixty years in the entertainment industry and his more than seven decades of life.
In a Tweet on Monday, Mayor LaToya Cantrell said of the Louisiana Hall of Fame Legend, "Today I presented a Key to the City to Mr. David Batiste Sr., on his 75th Birthday Congrats and Happy Birthday to a TRUE son of the City Mr. Batiste is a staple in the music scene here in New Orleans and has been for the past 60 years."

Legendary funk and soul band David Batiste and The Gladiators was formed back in 1962 by Batiste and his brothers. They became one of the founding groups of New Orleans funk-rock and have built an international cult following. The Gladiators, with David Batiste on keyboards and lead vocals, had a hit record in 1970 with Funky Soul Parts 1 & 2 on the Soulin' Label and later with Instant Records."
