LAFAYETTE, La. - LouisEagle -- "Americana" is a brand that's been bandied about quite liberally in today's musical environs. And yet, it takes a certain dedication and determination to remain true to its essence. In the case of Seattle-based Marley's Ghost, that eclectic energy has resulted in a broad repertoire that has defied any ability to tag them to any one particular genre. Their thirteen albums to date, like the output of The Band, survey a broad scope of Americana and acoustic music in general, refusing to confine them to any singular niche.

"It is, and always has been, about the music," bassist, fiddler, guitarist, singer and chief songwriter Dan Wheetman insists. "That's what's kept this band going for so long. It's always been about digging a little deeper, honing our skills and celebrating the entire playing process. That drives us forward."

This year commemorates the band's 40th anniversary, which they marked with the release of 'Honky Tonk,' a spirited, 14-track collection produced by Larry Campbell (Bob Dylan, Levon Helm) that pays homage to the great American songbook and legendary icons such Hank Williams, Waylon Jennings, George Jones, Merle Haggard, Mel Tillis, Chet Atkins, Bobby Bare, Johnny Paycheck, Ray Price, Roger Miller, Porter Wagoner and Dolly Parton.

Most of all through five decades, they've enjoyed the camaraderie of playing live. Earlier this year, Marley's Ghost delighted audiences, and industry alike, at the Austin Steel Guitar Fest, Strawberry Music Festival, with special guest Joel Savoy on fiddle, and, for the fourth time, eTown, the nationally-known, widely-respected syndicated radio program in Colorado.

The group's upcoming November 28th performance at Hideaway on Lee in downtown Lafayette will mark the band's first appearance in Louisiana. Admission is free and open to all ages. https://www.hideawayonlee.com/events/marleys-ghost
