The conservation district has been active in local and regional outreach projects spanning the past several years. The District strives to continue outreach to as many avenues as possible.

CLINTON, La. - LouisEagle -- Representatives of the NRCS and the District have also attended educational events at the LSU Ag Center – Idlewild, Southern University Ag Center, East Feliciana Parish STEAM Academy, Slaughter Community Charter School, East Feliciana 4-H, East Feliciana Unified Alumni Association campus projects, Galilee Baptist Church of Wilson – Vacation Bible School, Clinton Community Market, pasture walks, and various other community-based activities.          The Feliciana SWCD seeks to help bring about awareness of the available conservation programs and practices that are so important to the future of land in this country, particularly Louisiana and the Felicianas. Outreach is one of the best tools that can be used to send out that message. The USDA has supplied educational coloring books for kids, along with posters and handbooks for adults. These, along with marketing items, are distributed at outreach events.

There are other numerous conservation and technical programs administered by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and NRCS (Natural Resources Conservation Service) in its Clinton, Louisiana field office. Feliciana Soil and Water Conservation District's territory includes both East Feliciana Parish and West Feliciana Parish. It is currently seeking new cooperators in those parishes that may greatly benefit from the resources offered by the NRCS. Those services include many conservation technical assistance programs and activities such as conservation of private grazing land, conversation reserve program (administered by the USDA's FSA program), conservation technical assistance, and other aspects of farming and land conservation efforts. Feliciana SWCD works closely under the auspices of the Louisiana Department of Agriculture's Office of Soil and Water Conservation. It is one of 44 Soil and Water Conservation Districts in the State of Louisiana. SWCDs are local units of state government with functions very unique to any other forms of government, due mainly to the capability of entering private property at a landowner's request to plan and/or construct various conservation systems. It is funded by the Louisiana Legislature and through self-generated income. It is also assisted by the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service. The office is located at 9752 Plank Road, Clinton, Louisiana 70722. Appointments can be made by telephone at 225-683-8955, extension 3 or via email (Arlene.Culpepper@la.nacdnet.net). If you would like to be included in outreach events, please contact the office.
