The conservation district asks that potential candidates contact them for an election petition so names may be added to an upcoming ballot.
CLINTON, La. - LouisEagle -- As one of the board members' term is nearing its end, Feliciana Soil & Water Conservation District, per Louisiana law, is notifying voters and landowners in East Feliciana and West Feliciana Parishes that a seat will become available later this year. The district was founded in 1938 and ever since its inception, it has provided excellent service to both parishes. Tens of thousands of producers have been helped since the district began its work in the Felicianas. Feliciana Soil and Water Conservation District (Feliciana SWCD)'s territory includes both East Feliciana and West Feliciana Parishes. The agency works alongside the NRCS-USDA and closely under the auspices of the Louisiana Department of Agriculture's Office of Soil and Water Conservation. It is one of 44 Soil and Water Conservation Districts in the State of Louisiana and was in fact, the first ever created in Louisiana. SWCDs are local units of state government with functions unique to any other forms of government, due mainly to the capability of entering private property at a landowner's request to plan and/or construct various conservation systems. It is funded by the Louisiana Legislature and through self-generated income.
